The Aqua Energy Invest are companies established late 2006 with the aim to build, own and to operate from micro to medium hydroelectric power plants in Africa. We start in Nigeria - the heart of Africa. HydroEnergy Gmbh of Austria is the main technical partner to Aqua Energy. According to the World Atlas of Hydropower and Dams only 7% of the technical and economic potentials for Hydropower in Africa were developed in 2002. The comparable figure for the USA was 69% while in Europe was 75%. A hydroelectric plant can both produce electricity and clean drinkable water. Hydropower can contribute to the Millenium Development Targets of the United Nations. There are insurance and financial instruments available today that can reduce the exposure when investing in countries with legal and political risk. Electricity from Hydroelectric-plants are cheaper than most alternatives today including gas-plants. In recent years the use of private diesel-generators have built in Africa a strong demand and a willingness to pay for electricity. |
